چکیده

Abstract Background Infectious disease exposure investigations in the hospital are labor-intensive for infection prevention and control (IPC) team vulnerable to healthcare personnel (HCP) recall bias. We developed an electronic health record (EHR) algorithm identify rank patient-HCP interactions based on likelihood intensity of exposure. Methods compared conventional EHR-based findings from seven conducted between November 1, 2020 February 2022 at The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH), a 1095 bed academic tertiary center Baltimore, MD. Conventional were hospitalized patients who tested positive SARS-CoV-2 while not COVID-19 isolation precautions. IPC contacted department managers report potentially exposed HCPs occupational health. method identified HCP-patient clinical data such as documentation flowsheet, medication administration, etc. A score was calculated each HCP estimated duration contact. Genomic sequencing available samples performed investigate transmission events. Results Overall, system 75% (59/79) by 100% those document EHR. In contrast, it unable any individuals do EHR (Table 1). All transmissions investigation confirmed through genomic system, all had high-intensity scores (i.e., top quartile list individuals). Table 1.Comparison Based Exposure Investigations Conclusion found highly sensitive specific identifying with investigations. inability detect support staff or others limitation suggests that can augment but replace system’s speed, ease, lower resource requirements make promising tool more efficiently complete settings. Disclosures Sara E. Cosgrove, MD, Basilea: Member Infection Adjudication Committee.

Hazards of nitrous oxide exposure in healthcare personnel.

Nitrous oxide, a commonly used agent in the dental and anesthesia practice, carries serious risks to healthcare providers. Complications from its exposure can range from hematological abnormalities and neurological deficits to increased risk of spontaneous abortions in women. A concentrated effort by all anesthesia personnel is necessary to prevent the adverse effects associated with the use of...

Transcription in mosquito hemocytes in response to pathogen exposure

Mosquito hemocytes are blood cells that are fundamental for combating systemic infection. A study published in BMC Genomics shows that hemocyte gene transcription in response to immune challenge is pathogen-specific and reaffirms the primary role of these cells in immunity.

Gloves, extra gloves or special types of gloves for preventing percutaneous exposure injuries in healthcare personnel.

BACKGROUND Healthcare workers are at risk of acquiring viral diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV through exposure to contaminated blood and body fluids at work. Most often infection occurs when a healthcare worker inadvertently punctures the skin of their hand with a sharp implement that has been used in the treatment of an infected patient, thus bringing the patient's blood into ...

Hepatitis A vaccination in healthcare personnel.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Despite effective vaccine available, hepatitis A remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide including acute liver failure, transplantation and death. Vaccination rates for hepatitis A in the general population are low. Rates of hepatitis A vaccination in healthcare personnel (HCP) are unknown. We studied vaccination rate to hepatitis A in a cohort of HC...
